I went on a community volunteer archaeology dig this past weekend at El Polin Spring in the Presidio….!!!!!
This is the unit e.b. and I dug up. We collected artifacts (mostly old Spanish rooftop material, gravely stuff used to set the cobblestone, and different kinds of glass…including a white piece of glass!) found in our unit and stopped when we hit the Macadam (the gravely stuff on the left) and cobblestone (the larger stones on the right).
Macadam is what they used way back when to pave roads, and the cobblestone is part of a waterway set down during the depression era (by a program that helped create jobs).
This area is being restored and will be open in September for the public to visit!
